My recent furls
Sunday, April 11, 2004 It's not over yet!My previous post seems to have expressed premature optimism. I still can't get the two Belkin devices to talk to each other properly - not even when trying to configure one on an Apple iBook. I am almost at the point of just junking these and starting again with another manufacturer - or just implementing a wired network - though sadly I think that some of the same problems will come out and bite me with a wired network. Windows networking seems, to me at any rate, to be just awful. Modern users want systems that work, and don't require a PhD (I've got one ....) and several month's reading of manuals in order to get them up and running. And as for manuals which say things like "for the TCP/IP settings consult your administrator..." - what is the average home user to do? Ouch!!!! I am enthusiastic about wireless systems, and they can be got to work, but most sane people will not put up with this level of poor assistance. Incidentally, I think the hardware is OK - it's the software and the systems which surround it which are unspeakably awful.
